Position Summary
This internship will be focused on increasing the accessibility of key Health Education documents to align with federal legislation that will be implemented in April 2027.

Roles & Responsibilities
The student will be responsible for utilizing accessibility checker features in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Reader to add alt text and other accessibility features to existing Health Education resources. We also foresee the intern crafting messages about Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) services for subscribers to the Durham Health Beat electronic newsletter.
Required Skills & Experience
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Ability to write and speak effectively and to stimulate interest and cooperation among various groups in carrying out a program in public health education.
Strong organizational skills.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals, groups and communities.
A strong ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and population groups, including people of diverse gender identities, races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, and drug use patterns.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience creating or designing websites.
Familiarity with accessibility standards for those with visual or hearing limitations.
Experience creating user guides for technology-based skills.
Interest in health education and/or teaching.

We can only accept students that DCoDPH currently has a MOU with. This includes: UNC-CH (Gillings, Adams Dentistry, School of Nursing), NCCU, UNC-Greensboro, ECU, and UNC- Wilmington at the current moment.
