Internship Program

Applications for the Spring 2026 Internship Program are now closed. 
Applications for the Fall 2026 Internship Program will open in June.

Purpose

The Internship Program helps junior and senior undergraduate students in North Carolina explore and prepare for careers in governmental public health. Students build the foundational knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to launch their public health careers.

Eligibility

Junior or senior undergraduate students residing in North Carolina.

Timeline

Internships are 12 weeks in length and offered during the Fall and Spring semesters. 

  • Fall: Internships begin in August and end in November  

  • Spring: Internships begin in January and end in April

Final start and end dates will be determined by the supervisor and selected intern. While internship length may vary slightly by position, the program curriculum offered by the Pathways Program Team is completed by the intern over the course of 12 weeks.

Curriculum

If selected for an internship position posted in our database, you will be enrolled in the Internship Program curriculum that is built on the Public Health Foundational Capabilities and Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals. The curriculum develops knowledge, practical skills, and professional confidence through flexible and applied learning.
