Applications for the Spring 2026 Internship Program are now closed.
Applications for the Fall 2026 Practicum Program will open in April 2026.
Purpose
The Internship Program aims to help junior and senior undergraduates explore and prepare for careers in governmental public health.
Eligibility
Junior or senior undergraduate students residing in North Carolina.
Timeline
Internships are 12 weeks in length and offered during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Fall: Internships begin the first week of September and end in November

Spring: Internships begin the first week of February and end in April

Final start and end dates will be determined by the supervisor and selected intern. While internship length may vary slightly by position, the program curriculum offered by the Pathways Program Team is completed by the intern over the course of 12 weeks.
Curriculum
If selected for an internship position posted in our database, you will be enrolled in the Internship Program curriculum that is built on the Public Health Foundational Capabilities and Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals. The curriculum develops knowledge, practical skills, and professional confidence through flexible and applied learning.
