Position Summary

Working closely with communications staff, the position helps develop and deliver public health messages across a range of topics, including tobacco and vaping prevention/cessation initiatives, mental health initiatives, and sexual and reproductive health initiatives, among other topics. The position will disseminate messages using mediums such as social media, flyers and videos.

COMPENSATION RANGE:

$3840 stipend; $20 an hour for up to 192 hours over 12weeks. The intern is requested to work 16 hours a week during the 12-week internship. However, weekly hours can be flexible

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Aid in crafting newsletters, resource guides, social media posts and other methods of disseminating health information.

  • Develop health communication content for both social media and the web.

  • Capture photos, interviews and videos of Chatham County Public Health Department staff and clients for social media.

  • Promote the public health workforce through written advocacy, such as human interest stories.

Required Skills & Experience

Current junior or senior undergraduate student in public health or health education.

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Interest in working within a local public health department.

  • Experience using and posting on social media platforms, such as Instagram and YouTube.

  • Understanding of social determinants of health, health disparities and importance of equity in public health.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prepare concise, easy-to-read content.

  • Ability to take initiative, manage time and work independently.

  • Willingness to contribute to a team environment.
