Position Summary
Bull City Strong is the health literacy initiative at the Durham County Department of Public Health. Our goal is to share accurate, accessible, and actionable health information within our community. This practicum position will support those efforts by helping us assess community and organizational health literacy across Durham County.

Roles & Responsibilities
· Research: Identifying health literacy tools based on trauma informed organizational assessment.
· Research: Identifying existing health literacy surveys or questionnaires.
· Event Planning: Support the coordination of the Annual Durham County Community Health Workers (CHWs) Networking Event in May 2027.
· Program Coordination Support: Build e-communication list for Community Health Promoters (CHPs).
· Program Coordination Support: Provide Zoom or in-person support and other operations support for two CHP spring cohorts.
· Participant Support: Serving as a point of contact for current and prospective participants, providing information and guidance as needed.
· Event Planning: Attend and/or assist with community health education events.
Required Skills & Experience
Community engagement.
Literature review.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals, groups and communities.
A strong ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and population groups, including people of diverse gender identities, races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, and drug use patterns.
Technical skills.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Previous internships or volunteer work in public health settings.
Understanding of the structure and functions of public health organizations, particularly within North Carolina.
Experience in planning and executing events, workshops, or training sessions.
Experience working with diverse populations and community stakeholders.

We can only accept students that DCoDPH currently has a MOU with. This includes: UNC-CH (Gillings, Adams Dentistry, School of Nursing), NCCU, UNC-Greensboro, ECU, and UNC- Wilmington at the current moment.
