Position Description
The Nurse Consultant I would support and lead recruitment efforts for local medical examiners, with a primary focus on strengthening the medical examiner workforce across local jurisdictions. This role would center on coordinating and advancing recruitment strategies, serving as a point of contact for outreach, and supporting local partners in identifying and engaging qualified candidates. The most successful candidate will be someone who is proactive, relationship-oriented, and comfortable taking the reins on recruitment initiatives while working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Employees in this class typically provide expert advice and consultation within specialized nursing services in areas such as public health, utilization review, eye care and nursing education, infection control, quality performance improvement, risk management, recruitment and nursing administration. They may provide technical expertise and guidance in assessing, developing and implementing educational and research materials to meet nursing practice needs. Employees spend the majority of their time performing independent functions rather than direct patient care and may conduct onsite surveys or program audits. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level Nursing Consultant or Nurse Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge of nursing principles and techniques for medical, surgical and mental health practices.
Working knowledge of principles and practices of state and federal laws standards, certifying and accrediting bodies, guidelines, and regulations applicable to area of assignment.
Working knowledge of adult learning principles and teaching techniques.
Working knowledge of performance improvement principles.
Ability to gather, compile, and perform preliminary analysis on data.
Ability to provide patient and family education on disease processes, treatment and self-care.
Ability to provide feedback and guidance/counsel to nursing staff on care rendered to patients.
Ability to effectively teach nursing staff and other employees as appropriate through orientation and on-the-job training.
Ability to work in partnership with facilities/supervisory and management staff and outside organizations in planning, scheduling and providing service.
Ability to effectively communicate information to patients, families and staff in a concise and descriptive manner verbally and in written form.
Ability to engage in public speaking.
Minimum Education and Experience
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one years of experience in the area of specialization.
