Public Health Informatician

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will coordinate with diverse teams within the State Center for Health Statistics (SCHS) to integrate activities across five SCHS programs. This role would efficiently design cross-program data linkages (birth, birth defects, cancer, death, and hospital discharge data), expand population-based analyses, streamline the data use and data dissemination for research process, and support shared analytics and reporting. Example projects include assisting the Birth Defects Monitoring Program (BDMP) with piloting electronic case reports by processing and integrating case report files into the BDMP workflow; and automating vital records data imports into the BDMP database. By aligning program needs with available data systems, this position would make the best use of time and resources, reduce duplication of effort, and deliver long-term value beyond individual projects.

Much of this work will sit at the intersection of data management, financial oversight, and program support, including creating and populating a shared repository of grant and cooperative agreement information, developing Smartsheet dashboards for expenditures, and designing forms/reports to capture milestone progress for the ELC cooperative agreement. The most successful candidate will be someone who is analytical, detail-oriented, proficient in Excel and Smartsheet, and comfortable working with grants and budgeting processes. Training and credentialing in NCFS to run expense reports will also be required.

This position ensures the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data reported to the Central Cancer Registry (CCR) by hospital-based cancer registries, incident facilities, physician practices and pathology labs. Responsibilities include auditing and reconciling data, monitoring reporting compliance, performing case-finding and record linkage, and providing technical consultation and training on cancer reporting standards and quality assurance. The position collaborates on database design and queries, tracks and resolves data issues, and supports annual submissions and federal data quality requirements. It also maintains professional relationships, participates in relevant workgroups, and keeps up to date with cancer codes, cancer surveillance and registry database applications.
