Position Summary

The person in this position will primarily work with Health Promotion and Wellness and will have the opportunity to work on projects within other departments to learn how the health department operates and how to engage the community. The intern will have the opportunity to learn introductory information about grants/grant funded projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsible for effective communication among team members and staff at large, following directions, and having a start and end date of their internship. Follow schedules for one or multiple projects and notify the Internship Lead and Preceptor of any time-off requests or absenteeism from the schedule. Participate in Community Activities in two counties when needed.

Required Skills & Experience

Effective communication skills (verbal and written), ability to work independently and self-start when needed, comfortable or able to exhibit within our communities, and as a productive part of our team.

Preferred Skills & Experience

Experience with or willing to work with youth programming, such as teaching health curricula within our schools and outreach programming.

Additional Information

Hours will be decided upon by an individual's needs, project assignments and overall request for hours. For instance, some interns are assigned a certain number of hours by their university and their schedule will reflect what is needed to earn the requested number of hours.

Our regular workdays are Monday-Friday, with nights and weekends as needed. Weekend work is sometimes requested depending on the project, and weekend work can be permitted depending on the activity (e.g., remote work assignments). Remote work assignments are rare but possible.

If the prospective intern has a project or research they would like to implement while here we can consider it. We are dedicated to providing students with the best opportunity to work within a public health environment to fulfill their undergraduate requirements.
