Position Summary

Opportunity to develop a community-based syringe litter cleanup program with community partners and businesses, begin program implementation, collect program data, and report on findings, recommendations, and sustainability. The position is with the Harm Reduction Team within the Health Education Division at the Durham County Department of Public Health.

NON-MONETARY BENEFITS:

37.5 hour work week, on-site parking provided, access to fitness center and group fitness classes, 30 minutes of physical activity time during the workday

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Mapping areas with high syringe litter.

  • Collaborating with community partners and businesses.

  • Developing safe cleanup protocols/procedures.

  • Conducting trainings at community meetings.

  • Distributing supplies.

  • Collecting and analyzing data.

  • Final report on findings, evaluation, recommendations, and sustainability ideas.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of Public Health Education.

  • Knowledge of program planning, implementation, and evaluation principles and methodologies.

  • Ability to work effectively with humans of diverse gender identities, races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations.

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Zoom.

  • Able to share ideas clearly when speaking or writing.

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Understand harm reduction and have a basic understanding of health and social services.

  • Know the Durham community well - can work well with local groups and the public.
